Official Details

The Most Smart WLAN Router in the world just got better.

The Asus WL500G Premium Broadband Router is now really SIX devices in one box.
  1. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network.
  2. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need.
  3. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection, files, and other resources such as printers and hard disk storage space.
  4. It also has ability to be a print server or control device via the printer port
  5. A USB Storage support for USB key's / Harddisks OR a USB Webcam, the storage support is even included on OpenWrt with webcam support on the horizon.
  6. Finally, newly added is built in bit torrent support to download while your pc is off to the wl500gP attached USB harddisk.

Discussion

15/08/07 BlueIce : There is a version 2 of this product that MAY not have a mini PCI card as it may be integrated:( How to tell the difference between v2 and v1 remains to be answered.

18/8/06 Peter melb_ap : Ok this looks like the new leap in performance for openwrt & this range of products we were looking for!

It has all the pros of the r100/wl500g (minus the parallel port) but with USB2 , a 266 Mhz CPU , 8 meg flash & 32 meg memory standard !

Openwrt support is there, but some manual intervention is required.

Oleg firmware is not far away (in beta) with native 640x480 webcam support.
