[SSID] stands for "Service Set IDentifier" (or sometimes "Service Set IDentification"). An [SSID] is sometimes also referred to as a "network identifier" because it's a 32-character name attached to the header of packets set over a [WLAN] to identify exactly which [WLAN] (or network) the packet is associated with. This is especially important when there are two different [WLAN]s operating on the same [Channel channel]. For Melbourne Wireless [Node nodes], Section 7 of the [RFC] specifies that the [SSID] be set to "wireless.org.au".
