A function of the [Linux] [HostAP] wireless card driver.  Putting a wireless card into Master Mode makes it emulate an [AccessPoint Access Point] allowing it to accept associations (connections) from other cards in [ClientMode Client] or [ManagedMode Managed] Mode.
